Custom Paperback Book Printing

MMPrint produces custom paperback books for independent authors, publishers, businesses, schools, nonprofits and organizations throughout the United States.

A paperback book uses individually cut interior pages attached with adhesive to a printed wraparound soft cover. This perfect-bound construction creates the familiar appearance of a retail softcover book and allows sufficient page counts to include printing on the spine.

Choose from several standard trim sizes, black or full-color interiors, coated or uncoated covers and multiple page counts. Submitted files receive a human review for potential printing, pagination, spine and binding concerns before production.

Paperback Book Sizes

  • A Format – 4.33 x 7.01 – A compact paperback size suited to portable fiction, poetry and other text-focused books.
  • B Format – 5.12 x 7.8 – A slightly larger compact format for novels, memoirs and general reading.
  • 5.5 x 8.5 Books – A versatile softcover size for fiction, nonfiction, guides and educational publications.
  • 6 x 9 Books – A common trade-paperback format with additional room for text, headings and supporting graphics.
  • 8.5 x 11 Books – A larger format for workbooks, reference publications, instructional books and image-supported content.
  • Custom Sizes – Other finished dimensions can be reviewed according to the artwork, page count and production requirements.

Paperback Binding Options

  • Perfect Binding – Interior pages are stacked and attached to a wraparound soft cover with adhesive. Qualifying books have a flat printable spine.
  • Square-Back Saddle Stitching – Folded and stitched pages receive a squared spine appearance for compatible page counts and paper configurations.

Perfect binding is the standard choice when the goal is a traditional paperback-book appearance. The final page count, paper thickness and cover setup determine the finished spine width.

Paperback Cover Options

  • 100 lb. Uncoated Cover – A substantial cover with a natural, non-glossy surface.
  • 120 lb. Uncoated Cover – A heavier uncoated option for a more substantial softcover feel.
  • 10 pt. Gloss-Coated Cover – A smooth coated cover that supports colorful graphics and photography.
  • 12 pt. Gloss-Coated Cover – A heavier coated cover for qualifying paperback configurations.
  • Full-Color Front with Black Inside Cover – Uses color for the exterior while keeping the inside cover printed in black.
  • Full-Color Cover on Both Sides – Prints the exterior and inside cover surfaces in full color.
  • Black Cover Printing – Uses black printing on the exterior and inside cover surfaces.

Paperback Interior Paper and Color

  • 60 lb. Uncoated Offset – A practical uncoated interior paper for text-focused paperback books.

  • Black Interior Printing – Appropriate for novels, memoirs, poetry, nonfiction and other primarily text-based books.
  • Full-Color Interior Printing – Supports photographs, illustrations, charts, diagrams and other color content throughout the book.

Paperback Cover Finishing

Paperback Books Compared with Other Bound Products

  • Paperback Book – A softcover publication produced for sustained reading, typically using perfect binding and a printable spine.
  • Booklet – Often has a lower page count and may use saddle stitching, making it suitable for shorter informational or promotional content.
  • Catalog – Organizes products, specifications and sales information rather than a continuous manuscript.
  • Art Book – Prioritizes visual reproduction, paper selection and the presentation of artwork or photography.
  • Magazine – A recurring editorial publication commonly produced with saddle-stitch binding.
  • Hardcover Book – Uses rigid cover boards and is not part of this softcover paperback product.

Self-Publishing and ISBN Information

MMPrint provides book printing and production services. Authors and publishers are responsible for editing, proofreading, copyright, ISBN registration, barcode creation, pricing, distribution and other publishing requirements.

  • ISBN – Obtain and assign the correct ISBN before finalizing the cover when the book requires one.
  • Barcode – Supply a properly generated barcode with adequate size, contrast and clear space.
  • Retail Price – Include a price in the barcode or cover design only after confirming the intended retail information.
  • Publishing Imprint – Add the appropriate publisher or self-publishing imprint to the copyright and title pages.
  • Distribution – Confirm distributor, retailer and fulfillment requirements before printing.

Preparing Paperback Book Files

  • Supply the interior as one PDF – Arrange pages individually in the correct reading order rather than as printer spreads.
  • Prepare the cover separately – The wraparound cover should include the back cover, spine and front cover in one correctly sized file.
  • Wait for the final spine width – Spine thickness depends on the final page count and selected interior paper.
  • Use consistent page dimensions – Every interior page should match the selected trim size.
  • Include bleed where required – Extend images and backgrounds beyond the trim edge when they are intended to print to the edge.
  • Protect the binding margin – Keep important text and graphics away from the gutter and adhesive-bound edge.
  • Embed fonts – Ensure the final PDF includes the fonts required to reproduce the manuscript correctly.
  • Use high-resolution images – Evaluate photographs, illustrations and graphics at their final printed dimensions.
  • Check black text – Small body text should remain sharp and readable at the intended printed size.
  • Review blank pages – Confirm that all intentional blank pages appear in the supplied PDF.
  • Check page numbering – Verify front matter, chapters, appendices and indexes after the final layout is complete.
  • Proofread the final production file – Review the exact PDF intended for printing rather than an earlier manuscript version.

Understanding Paperback Page Counts

Paperback book configurations begin at 32 pages and can extend beyond 200 pages. The available range depends on the selected trim size, interior paper, binding method and production requirements.

Page count includes every printed and blank page in the final interior PDF. The cover is prepared and counted separately from the interior pages.
